The wines of Gérard Raphet are inspiringly sensorial, thought-provoking, and enchanting, opening the mind to how majestic old-vine Burgundy can be and just how intimate and extraordinary an experience is with some of the most outstanding wines of Burgundy. Today we welcome you to come with us on an adventure to another land, featuring the superb 2020-vintage wines from grand sites dotted throughout Burgundy. With few wineries in our 30-mile-long valley producing the 2020 vintage due to the devastating forest fires, we thought to be inclusive and expand our horizons even further in this vintage. So, upon personal request to our French wine importer, I am delighted to introduce the newly released, iconic, Burgundian red-wine treasures from the historical Domaine Gérard Raphet. Through four generations of stewarding these impeccably farmed vineyards, there is no pontificating, no philosophy - just the rhythm of a day that starts before sunrise, celebrating the years of history absorbed in each gnarled, 100-year-old vine, and the handful of barrels stashed in a dark cellar underneath the family home, waiting to be shared. We love Raphet's wines for their pure fruit, persistence on the palate, and their fidelity to the terroir on which the Raphet family has worked for generations. Raphet’s few rows of vines in ‘Les Bussières’ border premier cru ‘Les Sentiers’ upslope, next to premier cru ‘La Bussières’ in Morey-Saint-Denis. Similar to 'Sentiers,' soils are deep, rich in clay, and the age of the vines is 40+ years. Tasting Impressions: Aromas of pomegranate jam, raspberry, baking spices. Fresh and layered, with suave tannins; flavors of summer berries, mineral notes.
