Winemakers Notes:

Bedrock Wine Co. was started in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson. Working out of a small converted chicken coop in a friend’s backyard, Morgan focused on making personality-filled wines wrought from a small array of thoughtfully farmed vineyards. Over time the chicken coop and its outdoor fermenters and tiny basket press gave way to production at another friend’s winery and eventually to the “elegant” tin-sided warehouse that is now called home. In addition, after six years of working alone the winery welcomed Chris Cottrell as a partner-in-crime along with a small, dedicated staff of highly decent human beings.

Every year I struggle to write about Griffin’s Lair.  Maybe it is because it is too close to the heart (a wine from the vineyard made by Pax Mahle in 2002 made me want to come home from the East coast to make wine), maybe it is because Joan and Jim Griffin farm it so thoughtfully and perfectly, maybe it is because it has a bad-ass name, who knows.  Maybe it is just when a vineyard resonates so perfectly you don’t want to market it for fear of it going away—like not telling anyone the perfect girl who was out of your league gave your upper thigh a warm squeeze during study period in the library (we were all so lame in high school, I should have squeezed back!).  I adore the 2013 in all of its exotically feral, Syrah wonderfulness—I think it might be the most complete wine we have made from the vineyard.

Points:

96 - Wine Advocate

"The 2013 Syrah Griffin’s Lair, a vineyard made famous by Joe Donlan and Pax Mahle, is co-fermented with 12% Viognier, and about 60% whole clusters are used. That sounds a lot like the Guigal family’s Côte Rôties La Mouline (89% Syrah and 11% Viognier). This wine comes from the loamy soils in the Petaluma Gap, which is also known for its Mistral-like winds. Dense, ripe notes of blackcurrants, black raspberries and cherries are intermixed with lychee nut and apricot notes."

How do we ship?

We ship all our packages using FedEx and other approved carriers with an adult signature requirement (individual aged 21 years or older) at the time of delivery.

Where should you have your package delivered?

Shipping can take place to your home, office, or work. We recommend shipping to a location where an adult will be present during normal package delivery hours to fulfill the adult signature requirement. The courier will make a minimum of 3 delivery attempts and if those attempts are unsuccessful the package will be returned to sender. In the event a package is returned to sender due to an unsuccessful delivery a refund will be issued for the product, but courier fees are nonrefundable. Shipment to PO Boxes are prohibited.

Are deliveries tracked?

Once an order is fulfilled a tracking number will be issued and emailed to the email captured at the time of order placement.

When are packages shipped?

Orders are fulfilled daily, however, we do not fulfill orders on holidays, Saturdays or Sundays. Orders placed over the weekend are subject to delivery the following business day. Packages may be held at our discretion if the contents are sensitive, and the order timing jeopardizes the safety of the parcel and its contents.

What if the shipping address needs to change?

Due to the nature of our fulfillment process changes in address are difficult to accommodate. If a change of shipping address needs to be made contact us at info@boutellierwines.com.
