Winemaker Notes: 

Podere Sapaio specializes in Bordeaux varieties. Owner Massimo Piccin has been making stellar wines from vines occupying 60 windswept acres of Bolgheri’s clay-loam soils since 1999. In what is perhaps the toniest corner of Tuscany, Volpolo is the organically farmed overachiever that stands out for its simply ridiculous price-to-quality ratio.

 The way we secured this wine speaks to its quality: For our Wine Folly club, we collaborate with  Folly’s James Beard Award–winning founder, sommelier Madeline Puckette. She’d be right at home on our judging panel—she’s a tough critic, and she absolutely nailed this recommendation. 

 Pour a glass and you’ll see why The Wine Advocate said Sapaio’s wines “almost always hit that enviable sweet spot that sees good winemaking happily married to territory-driven personality.” That spot-on style is why they’ve won 10 Tre Bicchieri awards (Italy’s top wine honor) in the last 11 years. 

The 2019 Volpolo is gorgeously complex and aromatic, with floral notes layered on fresh blue fruit and herbs—the perfect accompaniment to a generous plate of Prosciutto di Parma or burrata lightly drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. When dinner comes around, slice up a grilled porterhouse and pour yourself a second glass. Bellissima.

All alcoholic beverages are sold in California and the title passes to you in California. The buyer is solely responsible for the shipment of alcoholic beverage products. When an order is placed the buyer is authorizing Boutellier Wines to act on their behalf to engage with a common carrier to deliver the order. We make no representation relative to your right to import wine into your state. The buyer is responsible for the shipment of alcoholic products purchased and determining the legality and consequences of having spirits or wine shipped to them.

How do we ship?

We ship all our packages using FedEx and other approved carriers with an adult signature requirement (individual aged 21 years or older) at the time of delivery.

Where should you have your package delivered?

Shipping can take place to your home, office, or work. We recommend shipping to a location where an adult will be present during normal package delivery hours to fulfill the adult signature requirement. The courier will make a minimum of 3 delivery attempts and if those attempts are unsuccessful the package will be returned to sender. In the event a package is returned to sender due to an unsuccessful delivery a refund will be issued for the product, but courier fees are nonrefundable. Shipment to PO Boxes are prohibited.

Are deliveries tracked?

Once an order is fulfilled a tracking number will be issued and emailed to the email captured at the time of order placement.

When are packages shipped?

Orders are fulfilled daily, however, we do not fulfill orders on holidays, Saturdays or Sundays. Orders placed over the weekend are subject to delivery the following business day. Packages may be held at our discretion if the contents are sensitive, and the order timing jeopardizes the safety of the parcel and its contents. 

What if the shipping address needs to change?
