DRC - Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
In 1869, Jacques-Marie Duvault (1789-1874) acquired Domaine de la Romanée-Conti at the age of 79. At his death, the vineyard, like the rest of the vast estate he constituted, was a family home, divided in half but undivided between his daughters Claudine-Constance Massin and Henriette Dupuis. Widowed (1883), Claudine-Constance gave this share to her daughter Gabrielle Chambon who gave it to her aunt Henriette Dupuis (1885). At the death of Henriette (1887), without a direct heir, the vine passed to her sister and nieces. It then became the property of two descendants: Jacques Chambon (1889-1969) and his sister Marie-Dominique Madeleine Gaudin de Villaine née Chambon (1883-1915), children of Gabrielle Chambon (1857-1903) and great-grandchildren of Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet.
The Gaudin de Villaine family remains to this day the owner of half of the Civil Society of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti: successively Edmond (1881-1950), Henri (1909-1998), Aubert, represent the descendant and co-heir families. They are now made up of the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Henri, husband of Hélène Zinoviev, and her brother Jean (1910-1975), husband of Simone-Marie de France.
In 1942 Jacques Chambon sold his shares to Henri Leroy (1894-1980), an owner harvesting and wine merchant in Auxey-Duresses who himself passed them on to his daughters Pauline Roch (1929-2009) and Marcelle (Lalou) Bize. The first has three children, Charles (1957-1992), Isabelle and Henry-Frédéric (1962-2018); the second a daughter, Perrine.
Under the control of a supervisory board (a representative of each family: Henri de Villaine and Pauline Roch during the years 1990-2000, Henri de Villaine and Perrine Fenal from the years 2000 to 2018, today Henri de Villaine and Isabelle Roch), the Domaine is managed by two managing partners: Aubert de Villaine and Lalou Bize-Leroy, from 1974 to 1991, then Aubert de Villaine and Charles Roch, replaced at his death in 1992 by Henry-Frédéric Roch. Following the premature death of her cousin Henri-Frédéric Roch on November 17, 2018, Perrine Fenal was appointed by her family and was appointed to take over this function by the General Assembly of the Domain on January 23, 2019.
Perrine has always felt deeply attached to the Domain, family-friendly, emotionally and professionally. As a child, she often accompanied her Grandfather Henri Leroy, then her Mother Lalou Bize-Leroy. From 1992 to 2005, his company Perrine Fenal S.A. was an importer and distributor of the Domaine's wines in French-speaking Switzerland.
In 2021, Bertrand de Villaine was appointed by his family to take over from his uncle Aubert de Villaine, an appointment rappointed by the General Assembly of December 3, 2021. Bertrand has been working at the Domaine since 2008, first in the vineyards, then in the cellar and then got involved in all aspects of the management of the Domaine alongside the two managing partners.
